The lyrical content for this project largely borrows from one aspect of the highly economical Haiku tradition - the construction of three short phrases with an ordered sequence of five, then seven, then five syllables. [Who Am I? is the exception, using a 3-5-3 scheme - a nod to some contemporary practices which break the 5-7-5 “rule” to follow the spirit of communicating meaning with the fewest amount of words.] The pieces also loosely employ other elements found in the tradition such as seasonal references, ambiguity, immediacy, images from nature, direct expression, an awareness of the moment in present time, the experience of the five senses, juxtaposing ideas that illustrate an unsuspected relationship between images or leap from subject to subject….
